Solomon joins the Green’s Illini team as Director of Operations
CHAMPAGNE, Ill. – University of Illinois women’s basketball head coach Shauna Green announced on Wednesday April 6 the addition of maya solomon to his Fighting Illini team as director of basketball operations, pending board approval.
“I’m so excited to have Maya join our Illini family,” Green said. “Having worked with Maya for the past two years, I know she will have an immediate impact here in Illinois. Her level of detail, work ethic, and ability to develop young women is second to none. Maya will do integral part of building a championship culture here in Champaign.”
Solomon comes to Illinois after serving the previous two seasons (2020-22) as Green’s director of basketball operations in Dayton. During his tenure at UD, Solomon helped the Flyers win back-to-back Atlantic Conference championships and playoff berths in the 2021 WNIT and 2022 NCAA tournaments.
“I am so excited and grateful for this incredible opportunity to join Shauna and further my career at the University of Illinois,” Solomon said. “I have gained invaluable experience working within his program over the past two years at Dayton and look forward to continued growth here at the U of I. Being able to participate in building a culture of success here in Illinois with Shauna and the rest of the staff will truly be something special.”
Solomon joined Green’s UD staff for the first time after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant for the University of North Carolina-Greensboro women’s basketball program (2018-20) . There, she earned her master’s degree in applied arts and science in May 2020, while helping the Spartans win a share of the 2020 Southern Conference regular season championship.
Prior to her time in North Carolina, Solomon was an outstanding state champion at Penn High School in Granger, Ind. She was a varsity letter winner for four years on the Maryville women’s basketball team and received the program’s senior award in 2018 while also captaining the Saints.
