Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits (Southern Glazer’s) – the world’s leading distributor of alcoholic beverages – today announced two key appointments for its new National Supplier Development and Marketing (SDM) organization.
Effective October 1, 2021, Mark Chaplin has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, reporting directly to Gene Sullivan, Director of Sales and Marketing. In addition to his current responsibilities, Mr. Chaplin will now assume the leadership role of the Southern Glazer Supplier Management team, which currently serves as national brand managers for key strategic suppliers. In its leadership role, this vendor-centric team will be responsible for driving growth beyond the industry by working directly with strategic vendors and Southern Glazer’s regional, state, national and functional support teams.
Also effective October 1, 2021, Zachary Poelma has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Supplier Strategy, reporting directly to Mr. Sullivan. In his expanded role, Mr. Poelma will work hand-in-hand with Mr. Chaplin on integrating a vendor-centric approach into a team of talented professionals including vendor strategy, insights and more. supplier support functions.

Most recently, Mark Chaplin was Vice President, Sales and Marketing. In this role, Mr. Chaplin worked directly with Gene Sullivan to support excellence in sales execution and interacted closely with strategic suppliers and client partners. Prior to this appointment, he was Director of Sales and Business Operations for the Eastern Region, where he contributed to several key strategic initiatives, including managing Eastern Region forecasting and planning, restructuring from the road to market and program management. Mr. Chaplin’s work experience prior to Southern Glazer includes positions with Gallo Sales Company, Merrill Lynch, Grant Thornton and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Mark Chaplin received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Miami. He is also a graduate of Southern Glazer’s Exceptional Leaders Program (ELP).

Zach Poelma has held several strategic and analytical roles of increasing responsibility since joining Southern Glazer’s in 2011. He most recently served as Senior Vice President, Supplier Strategy and Business Development, where he oversaw the Supplier Insights teams. and Strategy, while leading supplier expansion initiatives and collaborating with regional and national teams. In addition to his time at Southern Glazer’s, Mr. Poelma has also held corporate and financial positions for Procter & Gamble, Dannon and UBS.
